TEDxLytteltonWomen 2020
In a Covid19 impacted world the vulnerability of women In Africa has been brought to stark relief. These vulnerabilities are socio-economic (with majority business closures affecting women) health system inadequacies, gender based violence escalating and the poverty gap further widening. In South Africa we are emerging from a 6 month lockdown that has had a crippling effect on the economy, and research indicates that this has further exacerbated the inequality gap and further entrenches a patriarchal hierarchy.
It is against this backdrop that the organising team have opted to host TEDxLytteltonWomen 2020. In a climate of uncertainty, critical decision making, and frugal resource allocation, it is exceedingly imperative to provide a platform for and to facilitate the a forum for sharing ideas and breathing possibility and certainty into an environment of ambiguity. Some ideas are brand new, and some ideas call on the wisdom of experience. The theme for 2020 is Pathfinders and Connectors. We showcase speakers from South Africa and the African continent who represent women’s political, economic, and civic illumination. Pathfinders are people who go ahead and discover or show others a path or way. These pathfinders debunk the notion of African women only as empowerment candidates and showcases them as economic drivers, powerhouses and as the 21st Century face and voice of an integrated and developed Africa.
We invite you to work with us to make this event a success.
