 ABOUT TEDxLYTTELTONWOMEN

2018

TED is a platform that seeks to freely disseminate ideas worth spreading by the world’s most inspired thinkers, connecting a community of curious individuals, organisations and communities to engage with ideas and each other. TEDWomen is a three-day TED conference about the power of women and girls to be creators and change-makers. Each TEDWomen event is curated around a theme, and the 2019 TEDWomen theme is BOLD & BRILLIANT.

TEDxLytteltonWomen is an independently organized TED like experience under license from TEDx and TEDWomen. The prefix TEDx explains that it is a TEDx experience and is subject to the rules of TEDx. The suffix Women - indicates that we are a TEDxWomen event (curated once a year around the TEDWomen event). Lyttelton refers to the geographical location of the event.

TEDxLytteltonWomen happens over one day in front of a live audience. The content is shared online, at a later stage, on the official TEDx platform on YouTube.

TEDxLytteltonWomen specifically curates content by African women, predominantly South African women.  By license requirement, all TEDxLytteltonWomen events are managed as not for profit initiatives and are managed by a team of committed volunteers under direction of a licensee.

Through TEDxLytteltonWomen we deliberately share ideas, ways of thinking, and possibilities using the lens of African women, providing a platform to share their stories, amplifying their voices.
